‘Wild flowers of New York' (Spring Equinox 2020)

"Spring has come back again. The Earth is like a child that’s got poems by heart" - Rainer Maria Rilke (1922)

The March Equinox occurs today, 20 March 2021, and is known as the Vernal or Spring Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere, and the Autumnal Equinox in the Southern. On the day of an equinox, daytime and nighttime are of approximately equal duration all over the planet.

To celebrate the emerging springtime in the Northern Hemisphere, this is a selection of vintage botanical taxonomy photographs from 'Wild flowers of New York' (1918), by Homer House (State Botanist) (available to view in full via Flickr).
